An Innovative
Take On Wellness

I help organizations fight burnout and build resilience—through The Resilience Shortcut™, a science-backed method turning everyday delight into a powerful tool for recovery and performance. In high-stress environments, this shortcut helps teams reset faster, lead better, and thrive longer.
I've Presented Here:

A Super Easy Way to Foster Resilience

Why the ABCs of Delight Matter.

I’m a bestselling author, keynote speaker, and health expert whose work has appeared in The New York Times, NBC-TV, and many other national media outlets. I help organizations build resilience using a science-backed method I call The Resilience Shortcut™—a faster, more accessible path to recovery and well-being.

In a time of unprecedented stress, I don’t ask people to add more to their plate. Instead, drawing on my formal studies in trauma-informed care and embodied healing practices, I show them how to repurpose what they’re already doing—like drinking coffee—into tools for nervous system regulation and recovery. At the heart of this approach is a powerful but often overlooked pathway to well-being: the science of everyday delight.

This approach is grounded in neuroscience, biology, and positive psychology—drawing on decades of research into how the brain and body respond to stress. It’s also shaped by personal legacy: my mother survived Auschwitz, and her lived experience taught me that small moments of delight aren’t indulgences. They’re essential tools for survival.

The Resilience Shortcut™ helps people recognize and harness these moments of a delight. As a result, people bounce back faster, perform better, and stay grounded—even in severely adverse circumstances.

The Resilience Shortcut™ sits within a broader framework I call Pleasure Literacy—the common thread running through my work with individuals, organizations, and readers. By the way, I use the word “pleasure” intentionally, to highlight how the brain’s reward system—especially dopamine—drives motivation, focus, and emotional regulation.

In an era of deep exhaustion and ongoing uncertainty, my work offers a practical, extremely simple, and enjoyable way forward.

Life is difficult. Building resilience shouldn’t be difficult too.

Hi, I’m Laura

I’m a bestselling author, TEDx speaker, and Certified Trauma Professional who helps people feel better—without overhauling their lives. With a Master’s from Brown University and four decades in education, I teach science-backed strategies for resilience that are fast, doable, and even more than a little fun. My method—The Resilience Shortcut™—helps organizations and teams turn everyday moments (like sipping coffee) into a profound nervous system reset. My work has been featured in The New York Times, NBC-TV, HuffPost, PBS, and many more outlets. I’m also the author of The Pleasure Plan, a memoir about healing from trauma—using delight as the guide. I speak nationally on a range of topics, including mental health, resilience, and consent. In addition to my speaking work, I also support individuals through coaching focused on personal healing and restoration. The settings for my work varies sometimes, but the foundation stays the same: using pleasure, mindful presence, and science to restore inner strength.  I spent four decades in theater, three in higher ed, and two in workplace wellness. (Yes, these overlap. No, I’m not 110.) Whether I’m speaking to thousands or writing about tea houses and sanity, my mission is the same: to make well-being feel possible—even on your hardest days.

I’m passionate about:
Helping organizations build resilient cultures
Helping people be more joyful and less burned out
Giving audiences permission to feel good
Making people laugh, despite life's difficulties
